CARING FOR OUR COMMON HOME: AN INTERFAITH PERSPECTIVE ON THE PAPAL ENCYCLICAL LAUDATO SI
In May 2015, Pope Francis issued his groundbreaking second encyclical, Laudato Si. Its title was drawn from St. Francis of Assisi’s famous prayer-poem, “The Canticle of the Creatures,” and its message was addressed not only to Catholics, but to people of all faiths and of no faith. In this encyclical, the Holy Father explores the pressing issue of climate change and its direct impact on inequality among the peoples of the world. Using the chapters of Laudato Si as a guide, this course will look at climate change through the lenses of Christianity, the Franciscan tradition and world religions, and serve as a timely reminder that we cannot reverence God without reverencing and caring for Mother Earth, our common home.
