“Come one, Come all! If You can talk, You can SING!”
Music is an integral part of every liturgical celebration at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi. We are known for our vibrant music and concerts. Our liturgies have unique character and speak to people with varying tastes in music, from very traditional to very contemporary. Our music ministry is about engaging the Body of Christ in full and active participation. Those who wish to be part of this ministry should also possess the desire to minister to God’s people, and be willing to share music as prayer with the community. The Church of St. Francis of Assisi Music Ministry has several components:
SATB Choir
Our SATB (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) Choir sings, with few exceptions, at the 11:00 Eucharist each Sunday. This choir also sings at celebrations of major feasts, such as Christmas Eve/Day and the Paschal Triduum/Easter Sunday. This choir is also called upon during the liturgical year for special events, such as Advent Lessons & Carols and Taizé Prayer. Rehearsals are normally on Sunday Mornings beginning at 9:30 AM. It is customary that some additional rehearsal time is added prior to Christmas and Easter. Those who wish to be part of this ministry should possess an ability to sing on pitch and to follow printed music. Ability to actually read music is not a pre-requisite, but is a definite asset.
Instrumentalists
The Church of St. Francis of Assisi welcomes all persons of musical ability to participate by playing their instrument for our parish celebrations. Those who wish to do so need not play every week, but may work out a comfortable schedule throughout the year. Our parish instrumentalists offer their gifts in service to God, and offer them so that the faith of the community may be nourished through sung prayer.
