Today is the Third Sunday of Advent, traditionally called “Gaudete Sunday” from the Latin for “Rejoice!”
There is a note of hope and optimism in the readings for today. From Isaiah, we hear that “the Spirit of the Lord God is upon me” for the purpose of bringing glad tidings, of healing, of releasing those who are bound, and of announcing a year of favor from the Lord. This hope and optimism was something very much needed when Isaiah spoke these words and is very much needed now. In the midst of negativity and yearning for peace, this Advent is a time when we can look at our own hopes and dreams both individually and communally and place our trust in the One who coming amongst us is our reason for this season.
Carols with the Choir is this Sunday afternoon at 3 PM. This will lift your spirits and give you time to focus on the meaning for this season. Take a break and join us for an enjoyable afternoon.
The response for “basics” in Puerto Rico has been very touch- ing. When we realize that we can do something for our neighbors who have su ered so much, we don’t hesitate to do our share. Together, we will be able to let others know that they are not alone. Thank you!
