Take A Walk On The Wild Side
May 19-25 is Laudato Si week and all over the world people will be commemorating the ninth anniversary of the Pope’s encyclical and of the Laudato Si Movement. Here at St. Francis we’re celebrating it by taking a walk on the High Line. A simple walk, to honor nature rising up out of an abandoned railway.
Saturday, May 25th, meet at 9:00 AM at the church’s entrance on 32nd Street. Be quiet and contemplative or chatty with new friends. Click HERE for details and registration. Rain date June 1.
Two friends got the idea to make a park. It took 14 years but they did it. The High Line is now one, continuous, 1.45-mile-long greenway featuring 500+ species of plants and trees. The park is also home to a diverse suite of public programs, community and teen engagement, and world-class artwork and performances, free and open to all. “These achievements do not solve global problems, but they do show that men and women are still capable of intervening positively. For all our limitations, gestures of generosity, solidarity and care cannot but well up within us, since we were made for love.” Pope Francis (LS58)
