Our Adult Education Fall 2024 classes are open for registration


The Church of St. Francis of Assisi has long dedicated itself to ongoing faith formation of Adults through our Adult Education ministry.

Our Fall 2024 courses are now listed online and are open for registration here.

Subjects range from theology, biblical studies, spirituality, church history, music, literature and poetry.  Here are the titles of the courses for this upcoming semester:

While we try to keep our registration fees low (generally about $10 per hour of instruction) we also understand that for some this can be a burden.  We do not want anyone who wants to attend a class to be prohibited by economic hardship.  Please contact Fr. The Transitus – a remembrance of St. Francis’ passing

Each year on the eve of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, Franciscans around the world commemorate the passing of this beloved saint at a special prayer service called the Transitus. If you have never attended this moving commemoration of St. Francis’s final moments, please consider joining us. Everyone is invited to join the Friars and Staff for a reception in San Damiano Hall, immediately following.

Friday, October 4th is the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the founder of the Franciscan orders and the patron saint of our church here on 31st Street.

We will be celebrating the feast day Mass for St. Francis of Assisi at all of our regularly scheduled Masses on Friday, October 4th:

7:30 am
12:00 noon
Festive Mass – 5:30 pm

Laudato Si Circle One World One Love Fashion Show

In celebration of this year’s Season of Creation, the Laudato Si Circle is hosting a fashion show.  Come see beauty in action and learn about the role the fashion industry plays in the climate crisis.  We will also be collecting clean and dry used clothing in any condition which will be reused, recycled, or repurposed by the folks at Wearable Collections.

This event will be held Saturday, October 5th from 5:15 – 6:45 PM in the San Damiano Hall. Please register using the form below.

Converge Lectio Divina Series — Sundays in October

Lectio Divina, which means Divine Reading/Listening, is one of the great treasures of the Christian tradition of prayer, dating back to the monastic third century Desert Fathers and Mothers.

God lives in His Word. The Word is a Divine Presence. Lectio Divina helps us to hear God’s voice through the Sacred Scriptures, pray about personal issues we are struggling with, and grow in intimacy with God. It is based on the teachings of Jesus about prayer.

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. — Matthew 7:7-8

We can express to our Loving Lord whatever feelings or longings are stirred up in us by His Word — our struggles, hurts, epiphanies, and joys. As we let the Word of God open our minds and hearts to God, we find the acceptance, comfort, and healing that we long for, transforming us to a deeper union and oneness with Him. Our own story is the story of our Lord — The Mystery of Christ is the Mystery of our Life!

Converge @ St. Francis invites you to a Lectio Divina Series. This will be a 3-part series and will be held on October 6, 13 and 20 at 2:00 PM. The venue will be the Clare Room, Conference Room. If you are interested, please register here.

Celebrate St. Francis

Blessing of Animals

Do you love your pet? Well, God does too!

St. Francis of Assisi is the patron saint of animals, and it’s part of our Franciscan tradition to bless our furry friends on or near Francis’s feast day.

So bring your cat or dog, fish or frog, or any friend you have to get blessed.

The blessing will be held on Sunday, September 29th at 1:30pm. Please gather with your pet near the entrance of the church on W. 31st Street.

Sunday Bulletin – print edition has been revived

Our new pastor, Fr. Brian Jordan, OFM, has decided to revive the printed bulletin. We intend to have a printed version going forward, in addition to improving our website to convey all parish events, programs, and gatherings.

We previously suspended printing a hard copy of the weekly parish bulletin because we noticed that few people were taking them. Many were left over week after week. Based on community feedback, we have decided to revive the printed version. We will adjust the bulletin length and number of copies as needed.

San Lorenzo Ruiz Feast Day Mass

Join UGNAYAN, our Filipino Ministry, for the Feast Day Mass for San Lorenzo Ruiz. The Mass will be held Saturday, September 28 at 2pm in the Upper Church. Fr. Frank Critch will be presiding. All are welcome!

FrancisFest 2024 – Our Octoberfest to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi


You are invited to FrancisFest 2024, our annual Octoberfest celebration hosted by CONVERGE @St.Francis – our parish life ministry supporting life, faith and community at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi.

Join us in the San Damiano Hall for Beers and Brats and Pretzels and good times with parishioners and friends of St. Francis of Assisi.
