Women in the Church – a talk by Dr. Phyllis Zagano
The Church of St. Ignatius Loyola is hosting a talk entitled “Women in the Church” as part of the launch of Dr. Phyllis Zagano’s book, Just Church: Catholic Social Teaching, Synodality and Women
Dr. Phyllis Zagano will be speaking
Tuesday May 16, 2023
7 PM in Wallace Hall
at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola
980 Park Avenue
New York, New York 10028
Phyllis Zagano is an internationally acclaimed Catholic scholar and lecturer on contemporary spirituality and women’s issues in the church. Pope Francis appointed her to the Papal Commission for the Study of Women in the Diaconate, which convened in Rome November 2016. Her new book Just Church reviews Catholic social teaching and modern synods in relation to current and prospective ministry by women. With an eye to the intersection of synodality and women’s concerns, Dr. Zagano argues for an increased presence of women in the apostolic, liturgical, and governance sectors of the Church, and in this vein the ordination of women to the diaconate.

About The Great Divorce:
C.S. Lewis’ The Great Divorce is a classic Christian allegorical tale about a bus ride from hell to heaven. An extraordinary meditation upon good and evil, grace and judgment, Lewis’s revolutionary idea in the The Great Divorce is that the gates of Hell are locked from the inside. Using his extraordinary descriptive powers, Lewis’ The Great Divorce will change the way we think about good and evil.
The book can be purchased in many bookstores and online here: The Great Divorce: Lewis, C. S.: 9780060652951: Amazon.com: Books
Members of the Converge ministry will guide the discussion each week. We ask that you read the book prior to the discussions.
