JAMES JOYCE’S SELF-PORTRAIT OF AN ARTIST
JAMES JOYCE’S SELF-PORTRAIT OF AN ARTIST
“Once upon a time and a very good time it was…” So begins the fictional memoir of Joyce’s early life and education. A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, the sequel to Dubliners, was voted the third best English-language novel of the 20th century (Joyce’s Ulysses was voted number one). This course will take a close look at Joyce’s Portrait and conclude with a viewing and discussion of Joseph Strick’s 1977 film adaptation of the work. The novel is readily available in bookstores or online.
